(More customer reviews)I recently had a technician come and look at my furnace. At the time I was using a Merv 12 Filter for Allergens. I asked him if the filter was worth the money because it was expensive. He told me to go with a merv 8 filter because it would catch most of the particles that I want to get rid of but would decrease the cost of running my furnace. I have been using these filters for about 3-4 months now and they work great. They have decreased the amount of my bill but only slightly.

Other brands suffer the same performance degradation as well, but are not as sneaky and misleading as 3M.Appendix J was created to simulate "Real World" performance by pre-conditioning filters with a minimal amount of dust before they are tested.For most filters, the efficiency should remain the same, or even increase or decrease by up to 5%.3M Filtrete filters all show a decrease of 15-30% in efficiency rating.This is due to an over-enhancement with electrostatic charge, which is a way to make lower grade filter media reach a higher initial efficiency.Low grade filter media + a great marketing team + a whole lot of money = 3M Filtrete.
