(More customer reviews)I bought this unit without being able to see one in person, so I wasn't quite sure what I would be getting. I wanted stainless, but didn't feel like paying $1000+ for a hood. I am happy to say it is a very attractive unit, well built, easy to install, and works reasonably well.
I say reasonably, and I don't have anything to compare it to, so take this with a grain of salt, because at the lower speed settings, it will not draw air/steam from the front burners of the stove. When set to high speed, it does a good job, and does direct everything coming off the stove top up the flue.
The stainless is relatively easy to clean, but the top of the hood will get greasy if the fan isn't on and you are cooking with oil. The lights are nice and bright, and the fan isn't nearly as loud as some of the commercial units, but it doesn't draw as well either. Overall this is a good unit at a great price for someone looking to spice up the look of their kitchen without breaking the bank.

(More customer reviews)For the money, i guess it is unfair to expect a whisper quit unit, so you get what you pay for with this.
I was replacing a very old Broan hood, so i got this mainly because i had hopes that it would fit the space i had with minimal fuss and this did hold true and thereby accomplished my primary goal.
I was a bit amazed that being 30 years newer, the filter arrangement was so flimsy compared to the one i was replacing. I'll just have to live with that. This unit is also noticeably noisier than the original as well.
One thing that also surprised me was that if you vent the unit out through the wall, there is a vent in the front that must be covered up with a cheesy looking black plastic cover. I didn't notice it in the pictures on the amazon web site, but it is very noticeable in my kitchen. This is the result of having chosen a 'convertible' unit. I could not discern what the term actually meant and assumed it meant venting through the back or the top. In the end, i think it means you can use it vented through the wall or just recycle the air indoors.
My experience is a reminder that buying this type of product online is fraught with decisions that are costly to recover from, if made without understanding exactly what is being selected. This is made all the more difficult because Broan offers many, many units to pick from and their description of what makes the units unique are amazingly vague and difficult to understand, even after going to their web site and downloading the instructions beforehand. Additionally, i found it impossible to find any local stores who carry these in stock, so it is impossible to do that type of legwork first.
In the end, it might be unfair to give only two stars for this product, since you basically are getting about the cheapest hood you can buy, so the rating really reflects the frustration of not being presented with enough intelligible information that i might have been able to pick a unit that more closely matches what i was attempting to get.

Broan QS230SS Allure II 30-Inch Under-Cabinet Range Hood, Stainless Steel Review

(More customer reviews)My handyman installed this without incident. The appearance is sleek and modern, complementing a stainless range. The fan is not tool loud and works well for the rear burners. One feature that is a bit disconcerting is that it exhausts some air from the top of the hood to cool the light bulbs. It makes me wonder if this is why it captures less fumes than I would like from the front of the stove.
UPDATE 12/05/09 FIVE stars!***** Based on advice in the first comment on my review, I had the installation checked, and in fact, the baffle was diverting part of the exhaust from the duct to the top front vents, as though it were a ductless installation. Now there is no more exhaust air at all coming out of the top front vents. I did a smoke test, and the hood now draws from the front burner area. This hood, properly installed, works as well as it looks--and that is saying a lot. Check R. Parkinson's comment for advice on correct installation of the baffle.

(More customer reviews)This is a nice looking Chimney Style vent I bought for my kitchen re-model. The instructions to install were a little confusing. But with the help of my dad, we were able to knock it out in about 3 hours. The vent looks good and is pretty quiet. The built-in light gives off good illumination but it take a little while to warm up and come up to full brightness.
My only complaint is that I ran this vent ductless (did not vent out through the roof). And I have had a terrible time finding the charcoal filters that the manufacterer recommends. I have ordered the model number charcoal filters that are recommended in the installation instructions, but they don't fit!
Otherwise, this is a good product. I've owned it for 3 months now and no problems so far.

"allignment of the propeller to opening and level". It was making a lot of noise!
I took "Under Cabinet Range Hood" appart and put it together again correcting the problem!
I was ready to sent it back.
We are very happy with this item, my wife loves it because is very quiet and draws a lot of heat away from the kitchen area.

Broan/Nutone Replacement Range Hood Filter (LL62F) Review

(More customer reviews)The replacement filters are fine. They a little flimsier than the orignal filters I had but seem to do the job.
The mailing of the filters took a little longer than I expected but did arrive within 10 business days. At over $12, the shipping and handling was more that the cost of a filter.
All that being said, this is one of the few places that actually stocks the filters and they provide good service and excellent updates as to the status of the order.

The filter displayed here and matching the part number did NOT fit my unit. It didn't even look the same. I don't know what or where the mix up was. Buy-it-now was quick to refund my entire order, thank you. The search for these filters continues... they aren't at Lowe's.
