(More customer reviews)The compressor, being an oiled design makes it SO much quieter than the oil-free compressor it is replacing. I can actually hear someone talk now when the compressor is running. Output seems to be OK but you won't be able to split the airline and run 2 cutoff wheels on it or anything like that. For the home-owner garage use it should be fine for me. I don't think I'll ever buy an oil-free compressor again after hearing the noise difference. Shouldn't need to buy another for a long time though since it is rated for 3,000 hours-that would be over 4 months of running 24x7.
The biggest problem I had was shipping. The first unit had a broken air regulator and pressure sending unit. The air filter also was knocked loose but not damaged during shipping. I was able to get a replacement sent to me by Amazon, but the replacement was damaged even more. Same items were damaged except this pressure regulator was even more broken (it was absolutely destroyed). I kept the first one since it was less damaged and was able to get replacement parts for cheap. Amazon said they wouldn't be able to ship me a third unit and even gave me a wrong number to try to get replacement parts. Well it was a number that could have sold them to me, but Amazon said I would be able to get free replacements from the number they gave me...that wasn't so. To their credit, Amazon did refund me some of the purchase price which I used to get the replacement parts. I think the problem is the item just isn't packed well enough from the factory to survive the shipping (first was Fedex Ground, second was UPS....both damaged). Some more bracing to keep the compressor from 'falling' inside the box onto the parts that broke would be helpful. The other review at this time also indicates he had problems receiving a compressor free of damage. The price jumps around alot, I got it for less then 50% of the current Amazon price of $498.72 but it only stayed at that price for I think 1 day then went up significantly. For $500 price, you could probably get a bigger unit if you needed it.
Oh, be sure to add oil before starting it up. There are labels all over it stating that, so if you do that, then you obviously didn't pay much attention to it before starting it up!

Senco PC0968 Compressor, 1.5-Horsepower (PEAK) 2.5-Gallon Review

(More customer reviews)This is a great, comparatively light, little compressor that drives my stapler; brad driver, 15 and 16-gauge finish nailers with ease. I have high expectations for any Senco product, so I did notice one minor design flaw if you plan to use a filter at the compressor connection.
The compressor's female quick release is facing more toward the roll bar frame instead of being angled away from it. There isn't enough physical space to clear a large in-line air filter, so instead of changing out the factory release, I simply used a swivel fitting on the air line (see my photo) to angle the filter and hose away from the frame. No big thing.
The stacked tank design doesn't seem to be as loud as pancake compressors, but is about what you would expect of a 1-1/2HP compressor. I still intend to fashion a noise shroud for indoor and woodshop use.
I should also mention that it took two tries to get a compressor delivered that wasn't damaged in transit. Damaged compressors seem to be a common problem at Amazon (read the horror stories under Makita) but this is attributable to bad compressor design, as much as rough handling during shipping. My compressors arrived by UPS, double-boxed with newspaper packing in between, yet the first compressor had a smashed pressure gauge inside. The inner box, from Senco, was not damaged in any way. So that must mean the gauge was damaged and shipped out anyway at the factory???
I have to praise Amazon Customer Service who replaced and delivered a perfect, new Senco compressor in just 72 hours--can't ask for better service than that.

(More customer reviews)This machine is yet another good example of high quality Hitachi engineering. This compressor has outlasted several other brands. The machine has run two finishing guns continuously for almost a year and hasn't needed anything more than an oil change The regulator is predictable, and adjusts as easily as other brands. I firmly believe that Hitachi gets 4.1 CFM out of 14.5 amps. We simply do not run out of air no matter how fast we are working with the Senco SFN40's.Down time has been zilch. One thing we did add was a water/oil separator and filter to protect our work and our guns. I suppose Hitachi (and most other brands) leaves these off so that they will have a competitive price. But it does not make economical sense for YOU to leave them off.
While I have given this compressor a 5 star rating, there are some things for the engineers (and you!) to think about in the next model: 1. The way the regulator is mounted it is difficult to make a manifold for two hoses without hanging those pipes out there where they can get knocked off. Anyone who has knocked one off before will know that A) everyone in the neighborhood knows it right away and B) it puts you down for some expensive time. And C) when this happens, it often creates an unwanted projectile. It took me three street elbows and an hour of figuring to get the quick disconnects in a safe place. 2. When you pick the unit up with the handle, the unit tilts a bit. This means you have to hold it out away from your body a bit more than the size of the compressor would promise. All that horsepower weighs enough to make this more uncomfortable than need be. We just bent the handle with a torch to get on the center of gravity.
These are relatively small gigs on a really great compressor. I only spent so many words on them so that the engineers might just read this. It seems they will have plenty of time to correct this before the ones I own wear.

(More customer reviews)I was tired of throwing money away on canned air so I bought this Campbell Hausfeld 2 Gallon Mini Twin-Stack Air Compressor. A lot of people thought I was nuts, but then let's do the math....a can of air nowadays costs roughly $6 and I go through at least one a week times that by 52 weeks and you have $312. So in about five months time this compressor will have paid for itself.
The included nail/stapler gun does an excellent job. Just keep in mind that the gun which comes with this compressor is a simple brad nailer fit for doing jobs such as hanging thin sheets of paneling. The step up from that would be a finish nailer, which you would use that for nailing molding. The step above that would be a framing nailer and those are usually 3 ¼-inch nails for framing. For the finish and framing nailer you would need a much larger compressor to operate efficiently.
This compressor is best suited for small jobs. For instance, it excelled at inflating my dad's car tires and my brother's bike tires (set at 60 PSI) and the compressor only kicked on once or twice. However, when using it to blow air (set at 85 PSI) it only lasts about thirty seconds or so, then I have to wait about five minutes for it to fill back up. This does not bother me for like I said one can of air is about $6 and so waiting for five minutes for the tank to refill with free air is no biggie.
Something else to keep in mind if you're thinking of purchasing this compressor is to make sure you buy some extra fittings (and a roll of Teflon tape for wrapping the threads). The compressor comes with a few extras, but they're nothing to get excited about. For instance with the included inflation nozzle I added a 1/4" male coupler connector and a quick connector on one end of the hose so I can snap it on and off easily.
You will also need to buy a blow gun (Campbell Hausfeld MP520010AV 25-Piece Accessory Kit with Case) and it's a good idea to have a moisture filter to prevent water in the line (Campbell Hausfeld G6261 Water Filter). I bought a CH filter and installed it on the air outlet on the tank (using a 3/8" x 3/8" male coupling) and then hooked my hose to the other end. You can use quick couplings to make life easier for yourself, that way you can interchange hoses and tools in a snap.
All in all I am very happy with this purchase. The compressor runs smoothly. It's good looking. And it's not very loud. What more can you ask?

Campbell Hausfeld VT6271 26 Gallon ASME Oil-Lubricated 240V Horizontal Air Compressor Review

(More customer reviews)I too had a shipping problem though with another carrier (ABF). The shipping box is flimsy and cannot adequately support nor protect the compressor and parts. Mine arrived with a broken regulator, pressure gauge and air-filter assembly all of which apparently snapped off during shipment with no visible exterior box damage.
As the other reviewer also mentioned the compressor does NOT come with oil so be sure to have SAE30 air-compressor oil ready when it arrives. The manual does indicate the usage of Mobil 1 synthetic 10W-30 too. Also, you will need to provide your choice of air outlet connector.
If it wasn't for the bad shipment packaging I'd say initially that the compressor is a good buy but if Campbell Hausfeld has so little regard to protecting their product in shipment to you I question the integrity of the machine itself. The better products all seem to have better packaging and this one ranks poorly and for that I give it 3 stars tops.
UPDATE 7/15: I am updating this review a full day after receiving and can add more to the trials and tribulations of purchasing a C-H compressor.
I was able to replace the broken regulator and gauge with a Home Depot Husky replacment for $17.99. The oil was another $3 (buy two pints as you need to replace the oil after 1 hour use). A 1/4" quick connect female added $4 as well. The air filter assembly is currently taped but working until I can get a replacment.
After replacing the parts and turning on to run for the 10 minute break-in period I was plagued with mutliple leaks. One leak occurred in the main pipeline to tank (seal was improperly installed), another in the undamaged tank pressure gauge (somone missed adding teflon tape) and the third in the pressure tubing to the cutoff switch (not tightened). All in all if you include travel time to Home Depot nearly 2-1/2 hours were spent just getting the compressor to work only to discover that there is a leak at weld where the pump mount attaches to the tank.
On the plus side is the quietness and the nicely powered 120/240v motor. Do watch r gauge of wire (use 12ga min.) if using an extension cable as this compressor does draw a load when starting.
IMHO I wouldn't order a product like this if you need it for an immediate job as it will take to either repair yourself or to return and await a replacement. I have not heard back from Amazon Customer Service as yet and I am still pondering exchanging or flat out returning the item while waiting for Amazon to consider what avenue of resolution to pursue. I needed this compressor to replace my dead one and ordered it to coincide with my time at home as I could not expect my wife to unload it. I replaced the parts so that I could at least have use during the upcoming week off.
To Amazon: it is just as important for you to insure that your customer will receive a product undamaged and to that end I lay partial blame on you for not checking product quality and packaging. It is now my decision that I will be returning this item.

Senco PC1010 1-Horsepower Peak 1-Gallon Compressor Review

(More customer reviews)This is a great second compressor. I wouldn't buy this as a primary or first compressor but it works fine to support small nail guns. My other portable weighs 68 pounds and will keep up with 1 to 2 framing or roofing nailers. My shoulders ache from the number of times I have lugged it up 78 steps to a job site. This goes anywhere with a bunch of tools in the other hand.
Other than nail guns, NO it won't do much at 0.7 cu ft per min when paint spray guns need 10 times that, and a blow gun will empty the tank in 10 seconds or less. But seriously, this compressor gives me at least 10 shots from my 16 ga finish nailer before the motor kicks in; a couple more off of an 18 ga finish nailer, and as an acid test, I got 3 shots from a 3 1/4 inch framing nailer (not recommended but if all I need is 10 nails I'd rather carry this in - especially considering that my ripe old age keeps me from doing much serious hammering!)

(More customer reviews)This uses some steel mesh to act as an air filter instead of paper or fabric. The only filtering this will do is from having the air change direction a couple of times. Do your compressor a favor and get it a real filter, or you may be buying a new compressor.

Makita MAC700 Big Bore 2.0 HP Air Compressor Review

(More customer reviews)I do not want to repeat what all the other reviews have said. This is a quality compressor. In this day and age of plastic junk, I am surprised some of the reviews complained about wieght. The weight comes from steel, not plastic parts. The tanks are heavy steel as is the roll cage around the entire mechanism. The handle is in the center, so carrying it is well balanced.
The compressor is just as quiet as others report. I have it in the corner of my workshop about 10 from me. The start up instructions are easy and you are up and running in 20 minutes.
Why did I get this compressor? In sum, (1) I wanted a GOOD quality tool that was not Chineese junk, (2) I wanted at least 4 cfm for tools and (2) I did not want to spend a fortune. There seems to be several classes or levels of compressor in the lower price range. Unless you are getting a specialized mini-compressor just for a small brad gun, the $125-175 compressors are mostly junk: loud and rough. This Makita is in the next step up, with compressors in the $225 to 325 range. There are some Dewalt Emglo and others I looked at in this range. Most of this second tier are either made for just for job sites or are just bigger cheaply made compressors.
I chose the Makita over the Dewalt for one reason: quiet. The Dewalt is an excellent compressor, but you cannot use it next to you in an exclosed shop -- its too loud.
So, I wanted a quality tool and one that could live in the shop next to me. The Makita does both in spades. It is a very well made little compressor. The fit and finish is great. It has a dual personality: it works and looks great in the corner of the shop AND is perfect for taking to a job site or the back yard. Best of both worlds.
The compressor seems to live up to its specs. I have easily run 3/8 and 1/2 inch impact wrenches, a brad gun and a finish nail gun, along with blow guns, etc. When I went to use a Snap-On 7200 3/8" air ratchet, the performance was just adequate. Then I read the spec for the ratchet and it calls for 4.5 cfm. The Makita is rated at 4.2. SO, you do have to watch the cfm ratings on tools: I am sure a 8 cfm jitterbug sander will not work. But then again, that is not the type of tool I wanted this for.
I have not owned a compressor is many years. I looked long and hard for the best of all worlds: quality, size, price, and cfm. As an advanced and serious home workshop dude, this review is not written for the pros. But for a serious homeowner that appreciates quality tools and needs a general purpose compressor, I believe I found the perfect compressor.
Lastly, no shop came close to Amazon on total price, in large part due to the free shipping.
