I got it today, opened it up, (it was well packed), put it together, (small amount assembly required), wired it up to 220, tested the plasma cutter and the arc welder and so far it has worked great. It is easy to operate and easy to move around.(though it is light weight it feels very solidly built)
So far I am VERY pleased with it.

(More customer reviews)I had high expectations for this filter, but it is absolutely unusable because it fills the room with a noxious fake-vanilla odor. In contrast to the statements in the owners manual (which claims the odor will only last a short while), this odor remained very strong for over a month of continuous use on the highest fan speed. Eventually, BlueAir sent me a replacement set of filters because the first set I had were supposedly defective. The odor from the set of replacement filters was even worse. All subsequent attempts to contact BlueAir customer service regarding this issue have gone unanswered.
I have no idea if this filter is at all effective in removing odors because they have introduced a much stronger, equally offensive smell into the room where the filter is. If you have a room that you'd like to reek of fake vanilla, buy this product, or perhaps just a $5 Glade plug-in.

I checked all the reviews and descriptions I could find on several different web sites and decided to go for this portable unit. It has large water capacity, easy to move, can use as a fan only, add ice for real cool air, easy to add water, is quiet enough we left it on one night while we slept. Fan force good, it really moves the air on "high". Haven't emptied it yet, we have had 100 degree weather so it has been on every day. The "humidity" controller basically just determines how much water flows over the filters. The unit does not cool the room like a window evap unit would, but I do recommend it to take the temperature down 15-20 degrees. I am very glad I purchased this product and if I needed another cooler I would get this one again. It actually isn't too bad to look at either.

(More customer reviews)The compressor, being an oiled design makes it SO much quieter than the oil-free compressor it is replacing. I can actually hear someone talk now when the compressor is running. Output seems to be OK but you won't be able to split the airline and run 2 cutoff wheels on it or anything like that. For the home-owner garage use it should be fine for me. I don't think I'll ever buy an oil-free compressor again after hearing the noise difference. Shouldn't need to buy another for a long time though since it is rated for 3,000 hours-that would be over 4 months of running 24x7.
The biggest problem I had was shipping. The first unit had a broken air regulator and pressure sending unit. The air filter also was knocked loose but not damaged during shipping. I was able to get a replacement sent to me by Amazon, but the replacement was damaged even more. Same items were damaged except this pressure regulator was even more broken (it was absolutely destroyed). I kept the first one since it was less damaged and was able to get replacement parts for cheap. Amazon said they wouldn't be able to ship me a third unit and even gave me a wrong number to try to get replacement parts. Well it was a number that could have sold them to me, but Amazon said I would be able to get free replacements from the number they gave me...that wasn't so. To their credit, Amazon did refund me some of the purchase price which I used to get the replacement parts. I think the problem is the item just isn't packed well enough from the factory to survive the shipping (first was Fedex Ground, second was UPS....both damaged). Some more bracing to keep the compressor from 'falling' inside the box onto the parts that broke would be helpful. The other review at this time also indicates he had problems receiving a compressor free of damage. The price jumps around alot, I got it for less then 50% of the current Amazon price of $498.72 but it only stayed at that price for I think 1 day then went up significantly. For $500 price, you could probably get a bigger unit if you needed it.
Oh, be sure to add oil before starting it up. There are labels all over it stating that, so if you do that, then you obviously didn't pay much attention to it before starting it up!

Delonghi Pinguino PAC A110 11,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner Review

(More customer reviews)We bought this air conditioner in June of 2008. It ran during daytime hours from June until October. Last weekend, the compressor died.
The air conditioner is under warranty, but the warranty requires that the owner pay the cost of shipping the unit to the nearest repair center. We're in Texas, the nearest repair center is in Tampa, Florida. Shipping will cost over $100.
For a $500 unit to break down 4 months after purchase is unacceptable. To then be forced to pay over $100 in shipping costs in order to get warranty service is unbelievable.
Save your money, find a different unit that will meet your needs. As it stands, I'm either out the $500 we paid for the unit or I have to cough up an additional $100+ to ship it to Tampa for repairs. Astonishing.

Handy Cooler is the perfect travel/everyday must-have. It weighs a little over 4 ounces I would say. The size of the handy cooler is astonishing for an air cooler. It is about the size of a water bottle and the handle fits very well. I love how you can adjust the angle of the blowout direction. The air that comes out is cooler than fans, and it doesn't come off too strong. However, don't expect it to be as cold as and as powerful as a full-size AC.

GET IT WORKING
It works by evaporation. For cool air, you need to wet the sponge with the mini-bottle provided or wet it with water over the sink. I think it might even be a good idea to put it in the fridge for a while so that the air that comes out is even cooler.

BATTERIES
It can be powered by plugging it into a computer with the USB cord provided, or by 4 AA batteries which lasts about 5 hours. You can even purchase a 6V wall adapter for it.

CONCLUSION

Campbell Hausfeld VT6271 26 Gallon ASME Oil-Lubricated 240V Horizontal Air Compressor Review

(More customer reviews)I too had a shipping problem though with another carrier (ABF). The shipping box is flimsy and cannot adequately support nor protect the compressor and parts. Mine arrived with a broken regulator, pressure gauge and air-filter assembly all of which apparently snapped off during shipment with no visible exterior box damage.
As the other reviewer also mentioned the compressor does NOT come with oil so be sure to have SAE30 air-compressor oil ready when it arrives. The manual does indicate the usage of Mobil 1 synthetic 10W-30 too. Also, you will need to provide your choice of air outlet connector.
If it wasn't for the bad shipment packaging I'd say initially that the compressor is a good buy but if Campbell Hausfeld has so little regard to protecting their product in shipment to you I question the integrity of the machine itself. The better products all seem to have better packaging and this one ranks poorly and for that I give it 3 stars tops.
UPDATE 7/15: I am updating this review a full day after receiving and can add more to the trials and tribulations of purchasing a C-H compressor.
I was able to replace the broken regulator and gauge with a Home Depot Husky replacment for $17.99. The oil was another $3 (buy two pints as you need to replace the oil after 1 hour use). A 1/4" quick connect female added $4 as well. The air filter assembly is currently taped but working until I can get a replacment.
After replacing the parts and turning on to run for the 10 minute break-in period I was plagued with mutliple leaks. One leak occurred in the main pipeline to tank (seal was improperly installed), another in the undamaged tank pressure gauge (somone missed adding teflon tape) and the third in the pressure tubing to the cutoff switch (not tightened). All in all if you include travel time to Home Depot nearly 2-1/2 hours were spent just getting the compressor to work only to discover that there is a leak at weld where the pump mount attaches to the tank.
On the plus side is the quietness and the nicely powered 120/240v motor. Do watch r gauge of wire (use 12ga min.) if using an extension cable as this compressor does draw a load when starting.
IMHO I wouldn't order a product like this if you need it for an immediate job as it will take to either repair yourself or to return and await a replacement. I have not heard back from Amazon Customer Service as yet and I am still pondering exchanging or flat out returning the item while waiting for Amazon to consider what avenue of resolution to pursue. I needed this compressor to replace my dead one and ordered it to coincide with my time at home as I could not expect my wife to unload it. I replaced the parts so that I could at least have use during the upcoming week off.
To Amazon: it is just as important for you to insure that your customer will receive a product undamaged and to that end I lay partial blame on you for not checking product quality and packaging. It is now my decision that I will be returning this item.

The unit, (once properly vented) works really well for cooling my bed room but it shuts off when the water needs drained. Durning these hot temperatures this is after only 2-2.5 hrs. Draining the water is not an easy task because the drain is only 1 inch from the floor so you can only use a really really shallow dish. It does come with a hose to connect to a drain for continous drainage but the drain must be below or at the same level as the AC unit.
This drainage problem makes the unit NOT useful for long term cooling (you can't run it all night or use it to cool while at work)
As a long term solution I am working on buidling a stand to set the unit on for continous drainage into a bucket but it is heavey and vibration makes noise a problem. Other portable AC unit have a collecting bottle which is easy to revome for drainage.

(More customer reviews)The mobile home I live in has no heat or AC, so I thought this would be a good way to supply both. Though it was very heavy and hard to move, unless you are on a hard floor where the casters can work, I managed to get it all hooked up. Things went well for the first couple of weeks and then I don't know what happened, but every morning that I use it I find that the little tray that sits underneath the unit and catches the water, when you open the drain plug, is filled to overflowing and I must empty it and wipe up the floor around it. This happens whether I have the little rubber plug they supplied pushed into the hole or I have the screw on plug put on as it seems to leak from underneath the unit itself. I am very happy that I was sort of forced into putting it in a room that had a vinyl floor!
I have tried emptying the accumulated water before retiring and leaving it unemptied - neither works. I called Soleus and was put on hold - they said I was 9th in line and would be on hold for about 11 minutes; about 40 minutes later a man came on to tell me that they would call me back; that was a week ago! I turned the unit over to see if I could gain access to the inside and see what was up, but that didn't work either.
I hesitate to return it as I was barely able to get it from my porch to where I wanted it and I know I couldn't get it into a vehicle to send it back; not to mention that the packaging is gone and that it cost me $60.00 to have it sent and would be near that to return it. I guess I have resigned myself to cleaning up after it each morning.

SPT SF-610 Portable Evaporative Air Cooler with Ionizer Review

(More customer reviews)There are so many things wrong with this unit that I'm surprised I've managed to remember them all. Some other reviewers have touched base on them already, but here are the details:
* You put water and/or ice in the top of the unit; you cannot put water where the ice is and vice-versa. The area where you pour water into is about 3x2 inches in size (yes, really!), while the area for ice is about 7x3 inches. You literally need a funnel or a small plastic tube to fill the unit up with water (see below). But it gets worse...
* Easily the biggest flaw: the water/melted ice goes down a tube and literally into the casing of the unit! There is no water tank, or centralized hold for liquids. The entire bottom of the unit is the "tank", if you can even call it that.
* The two cooling packs provided contain some sort of cheap coolant liquid inside of them -- they do cool quite well, but here's the problem: they're physically too large. The cooling packs are dropped into the bottom of the casing (where the water is), right into the water. They don't mount inside anywhere.
* The "door" for the cooling packs is too small for my hand (and I have small hands), which makes removing the cooling packs impossible. It took me a good 5 minutes using a pair of plastic pliers to grab a pack and remove it. The door is held shut with magnets, which is admittedly nice. But the door empties right into the water "tank", which means you might as well fill it up from the side and not the top! What were they thinking when they engineered this thing?!
* Water pump is a pump intended for aquariums. If you open up the back of the unit (which you have to do for water filter cleaning; see below), you can peek inside and see quite clearly printed on the pump "AQUARIUM PUMP". Most aquarium pumps I know are loud, not soft/quiet nor do they hum; and because the pump is screw-mounted to the bottom of the unit (which is plastic), I'm left thinking the entire unit must vibrate heavily when powered on. This makes you question the production quality of this item.
* Water refill line is recessed deep inside the unit due to how the plastic casing is molded; it's impossible to read, and it's incredibly important (see above) to not go above a certain fill line. If you go above the line, water will start to come out of the front of the unit, and the rear of the unit (bottom of where the air filter starts).
* The air/lint filter on the back is easily removable. However, to clean the water filter, you must remove 6 screws and proceed to wiggle/wobble plastic pieces until you pull the back of the unit out. Why screws? Why not some retention plastic, or a clip? Better yet, why not magnets like the ones used on the coolant door? You cannot remove it entirely, because attached to it (permanently) is a bright orange hose connected somewhere within the unit; it has no slack. You need 3-4 hands to do this job.
* The water filter itself is what looks to be nylon webbing, identical to what some people use in a clothes hamper. It's just some cheap mesh with some Velcro on it so you can remove it semi-easily.
* Manual states you must clean the water filter every 2 weeks. Yup, you get to disassemble the unit that often. Fun for the whole family?
* Much to my amusement, the drainage spout (if you need to drain the unit) is directly behind where the AC power cord is. Am I the only one who thinks this is a bad idea?
Should you avoid this product? Absolutely. I'm left wishing I could give this thing negative stars; seriously, SPT should be ashamed for engineering something like this. I realize it's somewhat inexpensive, but what you get for under a hundred US dollars isn't even worth it.

(More customer reviews)First off, this is NOT an air conditioner. If you expect your room to be freezing cold, this is not the product for you. It's a COOLER, and it does its job very well. It works by evaporating water. Try soaking a T-shirt, wringing it out, and putting it on wet to get the effect. It doesn't work very well in humid areas, but it works GREAT where the air is dry.
I'm in southern California, where the humidity varies pretty widely. I place the cooler six or eight feet from my chair, and on the hottest days I'm quite comfortable.
Benefits:
* it's about 1/5 the cost of an air conditioner
* operating expense is a fraction of the cost of air conditioning
* neat features! (timer, sleep function, etc.)
* remote control
Drawbacks:
* it's not freezing cold like air conditioning.

(More customer reviews)As someone who is highly allergic to cigarette smoke and other air pollutants and irritants, I purchased a round Honeywell HEPA air filter when it first came on the market several years ago. It still works well in the living room, but it is quite noisy even on its lowest setting.
This year I purchased another Honeywell air cleaner with a HEPA filter (Model 17400) for my bedroom because I had contacted bacterial pneumonia last year and wanted to make sure I did not get it again. Next, I purchased this Honeywell 17000 Air Cleaner (with HEPA filter) for use in a smaller bedroom which has been turned into a home office and library.
These air cleaners really work! This winter I have not had a cold or flu. Also, this Honeywell Air Cleaner with HEPA filter is whisper soft, and I have had no problems with sleeping, working, reading, watching tv, or listening to music when it is running on the low and medium settings. I leave it on all the time, and I've found that it cleans the air best when the door is closed.
It has a convenient handle on the top, so I can move it to another room quite easily. Also, it is light enough that I can take it with me in the car if I want to use it away from home.
The prefilters last about 3-6 months, (and they can be vacuumed often if you have pets who shed). I change my HEPA filter every year, but you can wait 3 years to do so. These filters are easy to change. The Model 17000 is for a smaller room, and the Model 17400 is for a larger space.
Highly recommended for anyone who has pets, who lives with or entertains people who smoke, and who is allergic to dust, molds, or pollens.
