(More customer reviews)I just love my two Miele cannister vacuums, they're great. We live on all tile floors with 10 dogs and a few cats, so everyday I vacuum up a ton of animal hair, and I go through vacuum bags quite frequently. I'm not paying $19 for four bags, that's ridiculous! I e-mailed Miele, they told me about how much better filtration the new bags afforded. I explained that filtration quality means nothing when cleaning very coarse animal hair. I'm not living in a "clean Room" at Intel!
I noticed that Bosch has also raised their cannister bag prices, so maybe it's a German thing. I started buying generic "FJM" 5 bags for $10 from Amazon, which work just fine. These cheap bags have a cardboard connection at top, instead of plastic, but doesn't matter. So I'm happy now. I'm not paying $5 per Miele bag! I'm quite impressed with the Miele bags. I'm used to having to deal with paper vacuum bags, the kind that have a cardboard flange which has to be pushed onto a stem or hose in the bag compartment: the kind of bag that always seems to have dirt sifting out of it when it's time to install a fresh bag.
It's a pleasure to use Miele vacuum bags. They're made of a nonwoven fabric which is lined with aluminum foiled plastic, and they have a plastic flange that neatly snaps into a holder. It's impossible to install them incorrectly because of some thoughtfully-designed arrow guides. Once the bag is snapped into place and the door of the bag compartment is lowered, the vacuum hose automatically inserts into the Miele vacuum bag.
When it's time to change the bag, all I have to do is hold the bag by two little tabs at the top of the flange, and lift it up out of the holder. A plastic tab rolls down over the opening in the bag, automatically sealing the bag for disposal.
Someone put a lot of thought into the design of these bags and it shows!
