I really appreciate the fact that it does not fog my glasses and fits comfortably over my beard. Haven't had any problems with the straps and after a few minutes I barely notice that I'm wearing the mask. It is much more comfortable than the cheap dust mask's with the rubber band straps. I find that the filters last a good long time and can be blown out with the air chuck. Since I use a lot of exotic woods in my small shop this mask could literally be a life saver. Highly recommend.

(More customer reviews)The filter traps at least as much dirt as disposable filters, probably more. For this reason regular cleaning is required. The instructions say not to use a vacuum because it can damage the filter but I usually use a vacuum anyway. I don't see how the vacuum can damage it and the filter works just as well today as when I bought my first one about 6 years ago.
I've got 3 air returns and now I use these filters on all of them. I'll never go back to disposables partly because of the ongoing expense but partly because I don't want to store them or have to go find replacements when needed. I'm trading the inconvenience of storing and purchasing for the inconvenience of having to clean the filter. Pick your poison. At least with this filter the economic expense is only one time.
Even though I usually vaccum the filter, several times a year a deep cleaning with a garden hose is needed. If you have pets and the air return is near the floor then the pet hairs will get trapped in the plastic grid. It can be a real pain to pull them out. The vacuum and the garden hose both fail to clean them out. However, water makes them clump together to pull out easily by hand but it is still time consuming. This is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I only did this detail cleaning once a year. Our new house has air returns in the ceiling, so the pet hair is no longer an issue.
If you would rather clean the filter than store and buy new ones then this is the filter for you. That reminds me, that other reviewer that had a clean filter must either have a super clean house or maybe didn't use the air conditioner or furnace during the mild months or somehow is drawing air from another source. There no way this filter would appear clean after even as little as 10-20 hours of filtration use in a normal household. You might think about investing in an electronic thermostat which keeps track of usage like an odometer and reminds you to clean or replace your filter after 100 hours. During the summer or winter 100 hours of use could occur within as little time as a week. In the fall and spring, it could take 2 or 3 months to accumulate 100 hours of usage.

3M 8000 Particle Respirator N95, 30-Pack Review

(More customer reviews)Aside from recent challenges expressed by others in obtaining N95 respirators, I ordered a 30 pack from Deerso at $13.98/box and received them promptly. I should hope that anyone reading these reviews realizes that the bulk of the negative feedback is not product related, but just people caught up in the swine flu hysteria.
As stated, this is a good mask for a great price. Anyone familiar with the various types of respirators on the market will realize that a N95 is a far better mask than those marketed as "dust masks" you find at the hardware store. Those sell for $2-$5 for a two pack, these provide better protection and at $13-$15 for a box of 30, is a much better bargain.
The mask is perfect for anyone with alergies and/or asthma, which pretty much describes me. They are firm to the touch, as opposed to the soft cloth green surgical N95's (which cost more), and have dual elastic straps that hold tight throughout a long day. They are perfect for the garden, cleaning around the house & yard, changing the cat litter, doing anything with flour, and especially dusting & vacuming. Compared to softer masks, this mask actually breathes better and I don't sweat under it as much.
Like all masks, the metal nose clip is very helpful and, perhaps this is just my imagination, seems to hold better. Meaning it doesn't give way as easily as other brands I have tried, where you have to keep pinching it every so often to close the gap over your nose. This is a big issue to anyone like myself who wears glasses and they keep fogging up if your mask doesn't fit well.
As for my two cents on whether or not this is a good "flu mask," N95 means the mask will prevent 95% of particles from getting through. The only way to be really, really sure is to get a N100 mask and have it be a full fask mask as germs can just as easily get into you via your eyes and ears. Is anyone seriously going to wear one of those all the time?
For me, a N95 mask is better than a regular mask and falls into the category of "good enough" (for me).
Overall, this was a great buy.

It is a shame that I have to contact customer service on every order because they send me ONE filter instead of the advertised 4-pack. My most recent order has now been delivered incorrectly two times. That means I have had to send back the ONE filter twice now. What gives Amazon? Maybe you should re-check the shipping company for competent shipping personnel. Sorry, just tired of having to re-order through customer service repeatedly.

I've noticed a difference in the dust in the house. (No central air.) It has been three weeks and the filter looks pretty gross so I guess I'll be changing it fairly frequent. Also, I was able to cut one filter to fit two units: 5K BTU + 12K BTU.

I was using the Filtrete dark blue 1500 rated filters and thought they were great. But eventually I found the air flow was less and less and then it almost stopped altogether. I had to call my Heat/ AC guys and they told me that if I used the higher rated filter (1500 or so, different for each system), the one that 'stopped' more allergens/ dust/ etc, that these high rated ones fill up quickly with all the gunk the catch, and that they can slow down the air flow so much that it may cause your heat/ AC machinery to overheat and damage itself.
He switched me to the red Filtretes- they are rated 1000 and not 1500. If you truly need higher levels of filtration, make sure your heat/ ac system can handle it, and maybe you have to change the filters more often (the really highly rated filters grab EVERYTHING so all the dust etc builds up much more quickly and could block the air flow entirely in less time than say the red 1000 ones. So stay as low as you can on the ratings, but if you have to block extra things like dust or mites or allergens, ask your heat/ AC guy to tell you which filter to use, knowing it will capture this much dust/mites/ allergens, and how often you have to change it. Hope that helped, and good luck
ps I myself am going to ask them if i can use the higher rated filters- say the 1500s- if i switch them out much more often. we'll see.
